Second Place Finish for Al Autosport at VIR

Added Fuel to Championship Battle Ahead of Finale

ALTON, Va. (August 28, 2022) – Al Autosport with JDC locked down second place in the penultimate round of IMSA Prototype Challenge following an intense weekend at VIRginia International Raceway.

The Al Autosport with JDC group entered the weekend on the hunt for championship points sitting in second place, just 90 points back from first place. Hungry for a win, but more importantly a charge up the championship leaderboard, drivers Memo Gidley and Alexander Koreiba buckled down for a fast-paced weekend at the 17 turn, 3.20-mile course. A second-place finished secured the points they needed for one final championship challenge at the season finale next month.

With Memo Gidley at the helm the No. 23 Duqueine D08 started the race in third place for the early-morning event. He took the green flag and moved immediately into second position, battling with the top three cars for his entire run. Following a strong 42-minute stint Gidley entered the pitlane and placed the No. 23 in the hands of Koreiba to finish the race.

The Al Autosport with JDC crew had a strong pitstop and sent Koreiba on his way in third place. He entered the track and was immediately thrust into an intense battle, paused only when the field was under full course caution. After going back to green flag racing it was a 15-minute sprint to the finish with Koreiba in second place where he ultimately would finish the race.

Next up for the No. 23 Al Autosport with JDC Duqueine D08 is the IMSA Prototype Challenge season finale. The event takes place at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, September 28-30 in Braselton, Georgia. QUOTE BOARD

Memo Gidley, Driver of the No. 23 Al Autosport with JDC Duqueine D08
“I started the race and felt good,” Gidley said. “Luckily the yellow came out at a good time right after I pitted. It was a great race and being on the podium is awesome. Now we look towards Road Atlanta where our goal is to be as fast as we can.”

Alexander Koreiba, Driver of the No. 23 Al Autosport with JDC Duqueine D08
“I hopped into the car right before the restart,” Koreiba said. “I knew it was going to be tough with Corey right there so I really focused on getting away. The traffic held us up a little bit so I couldn’t get all the way up to first place. I think if we started 1-2 on the restart I could have gotten into first place, but hey that’s racing. Hoping we can stand on top at Road Atlanta.”

Alex Damalas, Team Principal of Al Autosport
“I think the weekend went really well,” Damalas said. “We were chasing the setup a bit because we were testing in different climates between the morning and afternoon settings but we definitely felt like this morning race was to our advantage. Alexander and Memo both got out there and did an excellent job. We’re really happy to be back on the podium.”
