Muscle Milk MEGA Athlete, Memo Gidley, made a guest appearance at the 2013 Simraceway Kids Go-Karting Summer Camp this past week. The camp put on by Simraceway at the Sonoma raceway go-kart track was the first go-kart camp of this type ever held at the track.
“I was so excited to hear about a kids go-kart summer camp,” said Gidley. “If I was ten years old, a summer camp like this would have been a dream for me!”
The camp was run and organized by Jared Thompson, the Simraceway karting manager, and had three days filled with action like Polaris Ranger rides, racing karts on the track, meeting professionals in the racing industry, and touring Sonoma Raceway.
Memo was asked to spend some time driving with the kids and then talk to them about his racing experiences and what it took him to rise to the top.
“Any time I get the opportunity to tell my story to kids and to influence and motivate them, I feel very lucky. I tell them to pick something that you really love in life, and work hard…that is key.” said Gidley. “It was cool to see the spark in all the kids’ eyes as I was talking to them about my racing and my life experiences. And the coolest part, the waves good bye from the kids as I am driving away from the track….priceless.”
“The 2013 Simraceway Performance Karting Center Summer Racing Camp was an amazing experience to say the least,” said karting manager Jared Thompson. “A special thanks to pro driver Memo Gidley with Muscle Milk.”
