So far this year, the Doran team with the #77 McDonalds/PR Newswire Daytona Prototype has had its best start to any season in recent years. Included in this is the team’s best finish in five years with a fourth two races ago at Barber Motorsports Park and a string of top ten finishes. Currently the #77 car with drivers Memo Gidley and Dion Von Moltke sits sixth in team points.
After a five week break, the Doran team now heads to Lime Rock Park looking to build on their momentum in round #5 of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 series race. “This year has been very satisfying in the #77 car because more of the pieces of having a winning effort are coming into place,” said Gidley. “The Doran Racing crew are really gelling, our set ups on the McDonalds prototype have been very good right off the truck, and my teammate Dion has been doing a really nice job.”
Since the last Rolex Series race in VIR, Muscle Milk Extreme Athlete Gidley has been anything but idle. Along with his normal demanding workout schedule, Gidley had his best finish in the DJSA 850cc expert class Jet Ski race with a second at the last race in Marysville, CA.
And then just this past weekend Memo was called on at the last minute to fill in for Greg Pickett in the Muscle Milk RS Spyder in Round #3 of the ALMS Series at the Mazda/Laguna Seca Raceway.
“It has been a great month for me with a lot of good finishes and I had a ton of fun,” said Gidley. “My second place in the jet ski race was great because I have really been practicing hard and it was nice to see that work pay off for me. And then to be called by Greg to fill in for him in the Muscle Milk Porsche Spyder, a great car and a great team, made for an awesome experience.
“The Muscle Milk group is really like family to me. They are such a big part of my racing and being a local company I spend a lot of time around everybody there and enjoy every minute of that.”
