Gidley eyes 25 Hours of Thunderhill trophy

Memo Gidley will race for Motorsports Solutions in the #00 Porsche GT3 Cup car at the 2012 25 Hours of Thunderhill race.

Muscle Milk MEGA athlete, Memo Gidley, never takes much of an off season.  Gidley who just recently got back from Daytona testing after signing with the powerful Gainsco Red Dragon Daytona Prototype team, has joined team Motorsports Solutions in the Ehret Family Winery backed GT3 cup car for this weekend’s NASA United States Air Force 25 Hour of Thunderhill race.

The 25 Hours of Thunderhill race is a grueling 25 Hour endurance race for everything from Mazda Miatas to some of the fastest GT and prototype cars around.   This year the entry has 72 cars scheduled to take the green flag this Saturday around the 2.86 mile Thunderhill Raceway Park track located in Willows, CA.

“So far this season has started of great for me…first prepping with Daytona with Gainsco and now the 25 Hour race in the Ehret Family Wines Porsche GT3 Cup Car,” said Gidley.

Gidley, known as the guy that has raced and driven just about anything, had surprisingly never driven a Porsche GT Cup car.  “Porsche GT cars are really an icon of the sport of racing, and I have seen their huge success on the racetrack,” said Gidley. “When I took my first laps in the #00 race car a few weeks ago, I then understood why they have had so much success.  Everything about the car just works like a fine tuned watch.  From the power, handling, brakes, shifting…to ergonomics of the racecar…it all fells great.  And considering that this is a factory built race car that anyone can buy…it’s a great piece.”

Gidley is teamed up in the #00 with Anthony Ward, Pierre Ehret, Tyler Mcquarie, and Christian Bollrath.  “We have a great team of drivers and I know that if we are able to run a clean race, we can win this thing,” said Gidley. “But in saying that, because of the number of cars, the lack of lighting and visibility of the circuit, the ever changing conditions and the sheer number of different cars, this will not be easy.  However, I am totally up for this challenge and can’t wait to get it on.”
