Gidley laps in McLaren F1 supercars

MG_McLaren1Muscle Milk MEGA athlete, Memo Gidley, added another vehicle to his already long list of fast and exotic cars that he has driven over the years, in lapping two McLaren F1 Supercars last weekend.

Gidley was called to give “hot laps” to donors as part of the CSRG Charity Challenge at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA. “I was called some months ago and asked if I wanted to give rides in a McLaren F1 Supercar,” said Gidley. “Driving these cars is something that not a lot of people get to do, and I was excited to give them a try and help out the Children’s Speedway Charity Foundation at the same time.”

The 1995 McLaren F1 is owned by Tom Price and the 2012 McLaren F1 from the Price dealership that sells McLarens. “Tom has used me to test and drive many of his very expensive and rare collection of cars,” said Gidley. “From a 25 million+ Ferrari GTO to this 3+ million dollar McLaren, these are cars that you don’t want to make mistakes in, but they are also meant to be driven…fast. It is walking a fine line taking on this responsibility. I love doing it and appreciate that Tom calls me.”

Gidley was joined by famous woman Indy Car racer, Lynn St. James, who was also on hand to give donors rides on the Sonoma track. “Lynn is a super nice person and back when she was racing Indy Cars, a heck of a race car driver,” said Gidley. “I have known Lynn for a number of years and have all the respect for her as a person and for what she accomplished in racing.”

As the 2012 season winds down, Gidley is working towards finding opportunities for next year. “Well, they say silly season has started…but really in racing it never ends!” said Gidley. “I do love the sport and am optimistic something great will come together soon for 2013.”
