Gidley and “Basic Instinct” crew finish 2nd in Corinthian Yacht Club race

CYC1This past Friday night, Muscle Milk/ Molecule MEGA athlete, Memo Gidley, and his “Basic Instinct” crew had their best race this year, to finish second in the Corinthian Yacht Club Friday night series race held in Tiburon, CA.

With perfect 10-20knt wind conditions on a beautiful SF Bay night, Memo and the “Basic Instinct” crew had high hopes for a strong finish. However, at the start gun, it was apparent they were going to have to play catch up as a bad start saw them cross the start line deep in the field. “This was a new course and a new series that we were racing at, and we just didn’t time the start very well at all,” said Gidley. “I thought after the start, that we really blew any chance of a strong finish.”

However, the “Basic Instinct” crew got into a nice groove and soon was overhauling the field. “As the wind picked up heading to the Yellow Bluff buoy towards the Golden Gate Bridge, my crew on “Basic Instinct” were really dealing with the windy conditions nicely and kept “Basic Instinct” on her feet and really moving forward nicely,” said Gidley. “And then on the final run back to the finish line…we were surfing the boat most of the time and having a great run…making up time along the way.”

At the finish, Basic Instinct came up thirty seconds short of its first victory this year but all were happy with the strong run. “It was our most competitive run this year and it is nice to see that we are making good progress as a team,” said Gidley. “That first win will come soon…and I can’t wait!”
