Gidley breaks in a new Tunnel and celebrates 30 years of Thrasher Magazine this weekend

PR-Thrasher-partySahlen RX8 GT driver in the Grand-Am presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 series and Muscle Milk Extreme Athlete, Memo Gidley, had a busy weekend.

First for Memo was the ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new Cal Park Hill bicycle Tunnel located in Marin County. The 12 year and 25 million dollar project rehabilitated a long shut down railroad tunnel and created a mile long bike pathway that links two Marin County cities, San Rafael and Larkspur.

As a current and long time Marin county resident, Memo was anxious to show his support to the people who made this huge project happen. “My goal was to be the first person to wheelie a bike through the tunnel but it was too crowded to pull that one off!“ said Gidley. ”But joking aside, I love to be around people that have a vision and then work as hard as so many people did on the Cal Park Hill bicycle tunnel. I am a huge fan of bikes not only because I ride and train on my Marin Mountain Bike on a daily basis, but also am a supporter of any person that uses a bike to commute. I support anything that promotes a healthy lifestyle as this tunnel does. It was exciting to celebrate its opening with so many people.”

After a quick turnaround, Memo was then off to the thirty year celebration party of Thrasher Magazine and the crowning of the Skater of The Year held at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, CA. Thrasher Magazine was started by the late Fausto Vitello and is the longest running skateboard magazine in the world. Thrasher Magazine created a lifestyle and product that has never been able to be duplicated and continues to be the leader in the skate industry. Fausto Vitello was also the founder of TrackMagic Karts with which Memo won numerous Karting titles for and rose to the top of the karting world with.

“Without question, if it was not for Fausto Vitello, I would not be where I am today,” said Gidley. “And without the hard work and success of the people of Thrasher Magazine, the Trackmagic race team would not have achieved the success that we did. It was a great night to see many friends. I owe a lot to anybody who has ever been part of Thrasher Magazine, long live the king!”
