From the “Widow Maker” to the Glen, it’s non-stop for Gidley

SuisunWatkins2Muscle Milk Extreme Athlete Memo Gidley never seems to stop.  It seems that many times, Gidley has just enough time to switch from one type of helmet to another and this past week was no different.

Gidley, who was sitting second in the DJSA Outlaw 850cc Expert standup points, just came off a solid ride in this past weekend’s Round #7 also known as the “Widow Maker.”  “There is no question that the Widow Maker is my nemesis when it comes to the DJSA series, “said Gidley. “Those concrete walls surrounding the track produce waves that are very large and unpredictable… kind of like racing in a four-sided wave pool!”

After solid rides in all three heats, Gidley wound up walking away with a fifth overall for the day.  “One thing I am figuring out is that most everybody falls at the Widow Maker,” said Gidley. “As strange as this sounds, the key is to know how to fall or even better how to recover from them as soon as possible.  And of course keeping your mouth closed to keep from swallowing a lot of pond water is a good thing!”

SuisunWatkins1And now this weekend, Gidley is off to Watkins Glen for the Crown Royal 200 and Round # 10 of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16.  “I got a call from Will Nonnamaker a couple of days after my jet ski race to see if I would be interested in driving for the Sahlen Team at the Glen,” said Gidley. “Asking me if I want to race something is like asking a baby if they want a cookie… of course yes!  And even though I have never driven a GT car, the racing is fantastic, and I have always heard good things about the Sahlen Team so I jumped at the opportunity.”

Green flag racing kicks off this Sat August 7th at 6PM.  Catch all the racing action live on SPEED Sat June 7th at 6PM ET.
