Doran Racing Heads to Daytona After Gidley’s First DJSA Expert Win

Daytona2It seems that Muscle Milk Extreme Athlete, Memo Gidley, always has something to prove.  Looking at Memo’s success you wouldn’t think it to be the case, considering he has won in everything and everything from bicycles to motorcycles to go-karts to some of the fastest four-wheeled racing machines in the world.

This past weekend at Round #5 of the DJSA Outlaw Jet Ski series in Salt Springs Reservoir, Memo earned another milestone by winning the 850cc Expert Stand Up class by sweeping all three motos.  Considering this is only Memo’s second full season racing jet skis, this accomplishment has come quickly.  “I am always asked by fans and friends, why with my busy schedule would I want to squeeze in jet ski racing… what do I have to prove?” said Gidley. “I try to explain that I have nothing to prove to anyone… just myself.  I like to tackle challenges and push myself to rise to the top.  It gives me a great feeling of accomplishment when this happens.”

The other competitors along with DJSA president Jim Lambert were some of the first to congratulate Memo.  “The coolest thing about DJSA is that the competitors really support one another,” said Gidley. “Frankly, even though I was able to pull out a win this time, I still have a lot to learn to be on the same level as guys like fellow racer Pete Zurnik and Ian Roberts to name a few. But I hope what people respect about me is that I am driven to be the best I can be and work very hard to make that happen.”

Daytona1Now, the next stop for Memo is Round #8 of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 this Saturday, July 3rd at Daytona International Speedway.  Memo and teammate Dion Von Moltke have really been garnering a lot of attention with the speed of the McDonalds/PR Newswire #77.  Memo consistently sets some of the fastest laps of any race weekend, showing how competitive the #77 team has become.  “We are really a small team competing against a lot of giants,” said Gidley. “I am really proud of my team Doran Racing and proud of the development we have done to get the #77 car near the front of the field.”

With five more rounds remaining, the Doran team is poised to get their first podium soon.  “I have been doing everything I can to try to make this happen, and I know we are very close,” said Gidley. “Unfortunately for me, this may be my last race as the team is running out of funding and may have to sell my seat to the highest bidder.  It is a normal and unfortunate part of racing but I still have hope that Kevin Doran will be able to put some additional sponsorship together so we can continue with our great momentum.”

The Brumos Porsche 250 kicks off July 3rd at 11:00 AM ET with all the action on Speed 1pm ET.
