Gidley Pulls Off Another Wild Win On The Water

Rolex Grand-Am star and Muscle Milk extreme athlete Memo Gidley showed that his first win earlier this year was no fluke by winning again at Race #3 of the 2009 DJSA Outlaw PWC Series Race Tour held at the Salt Springs Reservoir this past weekend in the Super 800cc class.  The overall was won by Memo after his 1st, 4th, and 2nd place heat race finishes that total for the final finishing position.

Race #3 of the 2009 DJSA Outlaw PWC Series Race Tour held at the Salt
Springs Reservoir this past weekend in the Super 800cc class.  The
overall was won by Memo after his 1st, 4th, and 2nd place heat race
finishes that total for the final finishing position.

"Well, it sure felt great to holeshot and win the first heat race!"
said Gildey.  "But then I went from hero to zero after I crashed three
times in the second heat race and finished 4th.  In the third heat I
got a good start and was second rounding the first turn, as much as I
tried I could not quite catch and pass the leader."

However, because all three heat race finishes are totaled, Gidley bested the field and came away with the win.

gidley_saltsprings2.pngThis jet-ski race was fresh off back-to-back Grand-Am race weekends at
VIR and New Jersey where the #77 McDonalds/Doran Racing driver finished
5th and 7th respectively, teamed with co-driver Brad Jaeger.  "I think
I owe some credit of my win to Grand-Am and the last race at New Jersey
where it was raining and so wet that my Daytona Prototype felt like a
jet ski on water!"  said Gidley.  "But seriously, I have to give credit
to the DJSA organization and their crew that puts on these jet ski
races.  The competition is great, and I have an absolute blast racing
in them."

gidley_saltsprings3.pngMemo Gidley currently drives for the #77 McDonalds Daytona Prototype in
the Rolex Grand-Am Series for Doran Racing. The next event is the
Verizon Festival of Speed at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, May 15 – 17.
The race is scheduled to take the green flag at 1:00 pm Sunday, May 17.
The race will be broadcast live starting at 4pm ET on SPEED TV.

"The Laguna Seca track is where it all began for me.  It’s the place
where I went to my first race, drove my first race car and scored a
podium as a Champ Car driver," says Gidley. "Every time I go back and
look at the building where the Jim Russell Racing School used to be
located, where I used to work as a mechanic during the day, and drive
around Monterey delivering pizzas at night to support myself, I’m
amazed – and thankful – at how far I’ve been able to come."
